Greece civilization has its origins from Greek Mythology and has had a significant impact on our history and mythology helped shed light to it’s culture, religion, and government of ancient Greece. The Mediterranean has served as a vessel for the early civilizations., Greek mythology has influenced the life style and religion of the Greeks, especially because Greek mythology served as the primary basis of Greek belief, it became the nearest thing the Greeks had to a holy bible.1 These mythologies served as the center of Greek life and these mythologies served as their basis for their life and in turn the mythologies shaped the foundation of the Greek life style, culture, religion that we know today. Ancient Greece was divided on the bases†¦show more content†¦The Greek religion had profoundly influenced on the religious beliefs of Etruscans and Romans. The beliefs of the average Greek might have been influenced both by traditional beliefs about the gods and ideas derived from the teachings of the philosophers. In addition, philosophers like Plato and Socrates addressed the subjects we often group under religious today, such as the meaning of life, the existence of an afterlife, the nature of the universe, and the nature of gods.2 The period of the Minoan and Mycenaean civilizations is of considerable interest concerning their religious rites and beliefs. There is a theory, in which during this period, of belief in a universal nature goddess and her male counterpart, who represented the calendar cycle of natural vegetation. The religion was also strongly linked to God Helios (the Sun), the bringer of light and Spring. After the fall of the Mycenaean civilization, the worship rites changed. New cult centers were created, and heroic cults were developed. Before the creation of the 12 Gods of Olympus, many of the gods were already worshipped all over Greece, as can be seen by the temples of Artemis, Zeus, Apollo, Athena and Poseidon, in Athens, Peloponnese and Samos. These scattered beliefs were later organized, mainly thanks to the works of Homer and Hesiod, who roughly established the standard Greek pantheon, despite local differentiations.
